Slack Integration
Overview
The AI Slack Agent allows you to create and manage Motion tasks directly from Slack. Instead of copying and pasting between tools, you can turn Slack conversations into tasks and keep discussions in sync across both platforms.
Key benefits
Effortless task creation from Slack messages.
AI-powered task suggestions with clear titles and descriptions.
Automatic duplicate checks to prevent clutter.
Two-way sync between Slack threads and Motion task comments.
Notifications in Slack when tasks are updated in Motion.
How It Works
Turn messages into tasks → React to a Slack message with any emojis or use the right-click menu.
AI task generation → Motion’s AI scans the full thread, generates a draft title and description, and checks for existing tasks.
Editable card → A task card posts back into Slack for quick edits before it’s finalized.
Channel → Project mapping → You can link a Slack channel to a specific Motion project so new tasks are automatically routed to the right place.
Two-way sync → Slack thread replies and Motion task comments mirror each other, ensuring updates stay visible in both tools.
Examples
Turn a bug report thread into a Motion task with title, description, and attachments already filled in.
Link your #marketing channel to the “Q4 Campaign” project so every new task created in Slack is automatically organized.
Reply to a Motion task comment in Slack — the update instantly appears in Motion too.
Best Practices
Use any emoji consistently to standardize how tasks are created from Slack.
Always review the AI-suggested title and description before confirming.
Link Slack channels to the most relevant projects to avoid routing confusion.
Rely on Slack notifications for status awareness, but use Motion for deeper project tracking.
Limitations
Only workspace members with both Slack and Motion access can create or edit tasks.
Slash commands are not supported — use the emoji or right-click menu.
AI suggestions rely on the context of the Slack thread; very short messages may need manual editing.
