Tables, code blocks, quotes, dividers

Blockquote: Indented block with quote styling.

C, C-like, C++, CSS, HTML, Java, JavaScript, Markdown, Objective-C, Plain text, PowerShell, Python, Rust, SQL,Swift, TypeScript, XML
Headings & toggle headings
Headings (H1, H2, H3) define hierarchy.
Toggle headings expand/collapse both child block and lists, allowing sections of text or nested lists to be hidden or revealed.
Checklists & list nesting
Checklists support check/uncheck states.
Bulleted and numbered lists allow multiple nested levels.
Keyboard shortcuts & formatting toolbar
Common shortcuts apply formatting (e.g.,
CMD + B
= bold,CMD + I
= italic).A floating formatting toolbar appears when highlighting text.
Formatting and Presentation
Formatting and presentation define how text and content can be styled or displayed in Motion Docs.
Text color palette
Inline text can be styled with a fixed color palette. Colors are applied at the character or word level and can be removed to return text to the default. In addition, you can apply background colors behind text for emphasis. Both text and background colors are purely visual and do not affect formatting or document structure.
Code formatting & language hints
Inline code: Monospaced style applied within text.
Code blocks: Support syntax highlighting for multiple languages (e.g., JavaScript, Python, SQL). Language can be selected from a dropdown.
Inline links, mentions, and previews
Links: Any text can be hyperlinked to an external URL.
Mentions (@): Docs, projects, tasks or users can be referenced inline.
Previews: Mentions expand into previews showing the linked item’s title and metadata.
Copy-paste & markdown handling
Copy-paste from external sources preserves basic formatting (headings, bold, italics, lists).
Markdown syntax (e.g.,
**bold**
,# Heading
) is automatically converted into the equivalent Doc formatting when pasted or typed.
Turn Notes into Work
Motion Docs support converting written content directly into tasks and projects, so notes can become actionable items.
Inline task creation
Tasks can be created directly within a Doc using inline fields. Supported fields include title, assignee, due date, and priority. Inline tasks follow the same workspace rules as tasks created elsewhere.
Inline project creation
Projects can be created inline from a Doc. Supported fields include title and dates. Additional fields must be configured in the full project view after creation.
Editing inline vs. full view
Inline tasks and projects can be edited in place for basic fields. Opening the full view allows access to all fields, attachments, and advanced settings.
Auto-scheduling & ETA visibility
Inline-created tasks are included in Motion’s auto-scheduling. Estimated completion times (ETAs) are visible alongside the task once scheduled.
Deletion & restore
Deleting an inline-created task or project only removes it from the Doc (treated as text) and NOT the workspace.
