Supported Providers

Support Providers

Motion integrates with the three major external calendar systems:

Provider
Supported Features
Notes

Google Calendar

Full event sync, recurring event support, task display, booking link event creation.

Fastest sync performance; most robust for reminders and recurrence handling.

Microsoft Outlook (Office 365 / Exchange Online)

Full event sync, recurring event support, task display, booking link event creation.

Sync intervals may vary; some advanced Outlook recurrence rules must be managed externally.

iCloud Calendar

Event sync, recurring events, task display.

Feature set is more limited compared to Google and Outlook; relies on Apple ID integration.

Behavior

  • Motion respects the rules of each provider (e.g., recurring event patterns, reminder defaults).

  • All providers support read/write integration, allowing Motion to create and update events.

  • Tasks appear externally for visibility only; they cannot be updated outside of Motion.

Why it matters Supported providers determine how reliably your events and tasks sync. Google and Outlook provide the most consistent integration, while iCloud support is more basic.

Key Features and Differences Between Google, Microsoft, and iCloud Calendars

Motion integrates with all three major calendar providers, but each has unique behaviors and limitations.

Google Calendar

- Fastest sync performance. - Full support for recurring events. - Robust reminders and notifications. - Strong sharing and collaboration features.

- Most consistent experience across platforms. - Supports complex recurrence rules (e.g., every 3rd Wednesday).

Microsoft Outlook (Office 365 / Exchange Online)

- Full event sync and recurring event support. - Booking link events write directly to Outlook. - Enterprise-grade sharing and permissions.

- Sync intervals can be slower than Google. - Some advanced recurrence rules must be managed directly in Outlook. - On-prem Exchange servers are not supported.

iCloud Calendar

- Syncs personal events into Motion. - Supports recurring events. - Shows Motion tasks externally for visibility.

- More limited feature set. - Sync reliability depends on Apple ID setup. - Fewer options for reminders and advanced recurrence patterns.

Why it matters The provider you use affects how quickly updates appear, how recurrence rules are handled, and what features are available. For the most seamless experience, Google and Microsoft provide the broadest integration, while iCloud offers more basic support.
