Motion Docs give you a flexible space to capture notes, draft ideas, and turn them into action. Whether you’re preparing for a meeting, writing a project brief, or documenting team knowledge, Docs stay connected to the rest of Motion so your work never gets lost. With AI built in, you can draft faster, organize smarter, and link everything back to tasks and projects.

Navigating docs
How to Navigate Docs
Browse from your workspace
Open the Workspaces panel in the sidebar.
Click into a folder or project to see all docs stored there.
Expand nested folders if you’ve organized docs hierarchically.
Search across everything
Use the Search bar in the top-left corner.
Type a keyword, doc title, or even project/task name.
The All results tab in your Motion search show matches across docs, projects, and tasks, so you can jump straight in or search within the Docs tab purely for Docs to remove unwanted Motion items.
Use Favorites for quick access
Hover over any doc in the sidebar → click the 3 dots then the star icon to favorite it.
Your favorites appear in the Favorites section of the sidebar for one-click access.
Jump with @ references
In any doc, type
@followed by a title or keyword to instantly reference another doc.This not only links docs together but also creates shortcuts for navigation.
Keep your sidebar tidy
Collapse folders you’re not using to reduce clutter.
Organize folders into a different workspace by clicking on the 3 dots (folder in the workspace) > edit > select a location.
💡Pro tip: Combine Favorites for your daily go-tos and Search for quick discovery. This keeps you from digging through long workspace trees.

Open or create a doc
From any workspace or folder, click New doc (left sidebar + menu or
/ new docinside another doc).Click the title at the top to rename it.
(Optional) Let AI draft for you
In the gray prompt at the top, describe what you want (e.g., “Draft a kickoff agenda. Use @Marketing Campaign.”).
Press Esc or click outside of the prompt box anytime to switch to manual writing.

Type

Edit and format text quickly
Select text to bold / italicize / underline, add links, or convert to a heading or list.
Use keyboard: Cmd/Ctrl+B/I/U for formatting; Tab/Shift+Tab to indent/outdent list items.
Reorder content
Hover a block to grab the drag handle on its left, then drag to move it.
Multi-select blocks (hold Shift and click) to move sections together.
Comment and collaborate
Highlight text → Comment to leave feedback or
@mentiona teammate.Resolve comments as you address them; everything stays tracked on the doc.
Use references to keep context tight
Type
@and search to link relevant docs/projects/tasks.These links act as live references your AI and teammates can follow.
Review history & protect work
Open Version history (clock with arrow icon) to see prior versions or restore one.
Use Share to control who can view or edit; use Move to file the doc in the right workspace/folder.

Open your doc
Navigate to the doc where you’ve written your notes.
Place your cursor next to the line of text you want to turn into a task or project.
Use the
/commandType
/to open the quick actions menu.Select New task or New project.
Fill in the details
Give your task or project a name.
Add extras like due dates, assignees, or priority as needed.
Keep context connected
The task/project stays linked back to the doc where it was created.
This way, anyone reviewing the doc later can trace the context behind the work item.
Edit inline anytime
Hover over the created task/project inside the doc.
Update details (status, assignee, deadlines) without leaving the doc.

Open your doc → click Share in the top-right.
Choose who can view or edit.

Highlight text → click Comment.
